Baptism Weekend

Baptism Weekend

The Bible is pretty clear that once we’ve decisively put our faith in Jesus as our savior and we’ve turned our lives in his direction that we need to be baptized. We’re so pumped that you’re ready to take this step!

Check back soon for a future date for our next Baptism Weekend.

We believe that taking this next step in your relationship with Jesus is a very important step in your faith. During this time of physical distancing, your safety is our number one priority.

  • Journey Kids (Kindergarten-5th grade): If your child would like to get baptized, you can find out more information HERE.

COVID-19 Safety Guidelines

Our team has created a safe way for all adults and kids interested in taking the step of baptism at our physical locations.

  • You will be the only person in the water at a time when getting baptized.
  • Although a mask does not need to be worn in the baptism pool, masks must be worn immediately before and following baptism.
  • A limited amount of baptisms will be scheduled per time slot per location. You will be contacted with your time slot for your baptism after signing up.
  • In order to facilitate social distancing, those getting baptized may either be guided through self-baptism or can choose to be baptized by someone in their own household who has already been baptized, which can be noted when signing up. Share this PDF as a guide if someone is baptizing you.
  • Railings will be disinfected between each individual getting baptized. Please be aware that chlorinated water does not support transmitted viruses, as chlorine is considered a disinfectant.
  • If you have any further questions on what baptism will be like this fall, email us at baptism@yourjourney.tv. We’d love to help answer your questions!

Who can baptize me at The Journey's physical locations?

In order to facilitate social distancing, those getting baptized may either be guided through self-baptism or can choose to be baptized by someone in their own household who has already been baptized, which can be noted when signing up. If someone in your household is baptizing you, share this PDF with them, giving them all of the information they need to know.

What does self-baptism at a physical location look like?

Your safety is important to us as you take this step in your faith journey! If you have selected to self-baptize, here’s what you need to know:

  • A limited amount of baptisms will be scheduled per time slot per location. You will be contacted with your time slot for your baptism after signing up.
  • You will be the only person in the water at a time when getting baptized.
  • When it’s your turn, you’ll walk into the baptismal pool. Our team will be right beside you to guide you in baptism.
  • When you’re in the water, hold your nose, bend your knees, and lean back to immerse yourself fully in the water for just a moment. When you come up out of the water, put your arms up in celebration!
  • If you have any further questions on what baptism will be like this fall, email us at baptism@yourjourney.tv. We’d love to help answer your questions!

Can I choose to be baptized at home?

Absolutely! Whether you gather online or are more comfortable getting baptized at home, we have some information for you that’ll help guide you in taking this step:

  • Choose a place to get baptized — a bathtub, river, pool, or hot tub are all great options depending on what you are comfortable with.
  • Choose someone to baptize you. They don’t need to be a pastor — just a follower of Jesus who has already been baptized. Share this guide with them before your baptism.
  • Wear dark clothing, bring a towel, and invite friends and family to attend and celebrate.
  • After you get baptized, we’d love to have a chance to celebrate you! Email us your photos and videos at baptism@yourjourney.tv along with your story.

Baptism Facts

1. WHY BE BAPTIZED?

Those who are baptized are following Jesus’ example and obeying his command.

  • “After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.””—Matthew 3:16–17
  • “Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”” —Matthew 28:18–20

2. WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BAPTISM?

Water baptism is a public declaration of three very important things:

  • You are a follower of Jesus Christ.
“Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.” —Acts 2:41
  • You are beginning a changed life in Christ.
“For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.” —Romans 6:4
  • You are part of a new family.
For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.” —Galatians 3:26–27

3. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN BAPTIZED. SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED AGAIN?

Your baptism should have signified you becoming a follower of Jesus, beginning a changed life, and uniting with a new family. If your baptism did not reflect this change of life, then you should be baptized again.

4. CAN MY CHILD BE BAPTIZED?

We will baptize anyone Kindergarten age and older who understands what baptism symbolizes and wants to make that personal public declaration. We encourage any parents to partner with our Journey Kids team to guide your children through these decisions of faith. For more information to help guide your child through this important decision, check out our Journey Kids baptism page HERE.
