19 Feb Day 21
Closer
WRITTEN BY: Anthony Reid
Most of us have a number of different titles or roles by which we are known. Whether it is brother, friend, mother, father, professor, or even Eagles fan, each of these names or titles tells us something about us. And so, as we wrap up our Day 22 three-week devotional, we hope that we have helped you learn a bit more about “What’s In A Name?”
Through this devotional journey together, we have intentionally taken the time to look closely at the names used to refer to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit but also what these names reflect about their character, promises, and faithfulness. For me, seeing God as the great ‘I AM’ is still something that sticks out to me. No matter how much I get to know God, there is still so much I do not and cannot know. Which of the names in our devotional series stuck out to you? How can you continue to see God in this way today? While our devotional series, and this time learning together, has come to an end, we hope that this is only the beginning (or a new beginning!) of your developing relationship with God.
You might wonder to yourself, ‘what’s next?’. If you’re like me, then the structure of 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, followed by the Day 22 devotional established a new rhythm for our slot and spot. As we move into the next month, season, year, or whatever is next for you, we have the opportunity to continue to dive deeper into a more intimate relationship with God. Maybe you’ll use SOAP as a tool for your own time and place with God. Or maybe you will continue to pray on and through the many names of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Maybe, your plan is just to show up for your slot and spot again tomorrow and the next day, expectant that God will meet you there.
Whatever the next step is for you, be encouraged that we can have as much of God as we want.
Keep going, keep reading, and keep applying his Word to your life. “Day 23” starts…
… Now!
Prayer: God, we thank you for all that you have done and been for us this year. We thank you for the opportunity to get to know you better through your word and through community with one another. Continue to remind us to draw close to you, that we need only look for you and you are there. We thank you for empowering us to be a light in the darkness, and using us to further your kingdom. It is in Jesus’ name that we pray! Amen
Anthony Reid/ Journey Students
After seeing one of his friends post on Facebook about The Journey in 2018, Anthony decided to check it out during the “Hello, My Name Is…” series. He started to see what a real relationship with God and a life following Jesus, could look like for him. Shortly after this, Anthony went public with his faith during Baptism Weekend, started attending Plugged In, and began serving on the Journey Students team as well as other teams.
Next Steps:
Gather on the weekend
Connect in a J-Group
Serve on the J-Team
Attend “Plugged In” for help getting connected or serving.
Continue reading and learning with a Bible plan through YouVersion– Tony Evans has many 3-day devotionals covering several Names!

Posted at 06:27h, 19 FebruaryThanks for this Anthony! What a great way to end this series! I loved learning about all of these names more. I think the Good Shepherd stood out the most for me this time but all were so great. I hope everyone is able to continue their slot and spot this year!
