06 Feb Day 8
The Word-Jesus
WRITTEN BY: Dyniece Meikle
Scripture: John 1:1-5-NLT– “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”
I encourage you to read the rest here John 1
Observation: As humans we often get sunk into a rabbit hole of theological questions. The most debated question of all time is “What came first, the chicken or the egg?” While the world debates that question, we as Christians know one thing is true: Jesus was there in the beginning and was there when every form of life was created—yes, including the chicken and the egg.
Application: This account from John gives us so much insight into who Jesus is, how it all began, and the existence of Jesus as The Word in the beginning, with God. I believe all of us, at one point in our lives, ponder where it all began. You know the who, what, where, when, and why—popularly known as the five W’s. John 1:1 easily answers this by telling us: who—Jesus; what—The Word; where—with God; when—the beginning; and the most important of all, why— to bring light to everyone! Those few verses very clearly answer a lot of the most asked questions about life and, at the same time, tells us so much about Jesus.
In verse 14 of John 1(NKJ), we also read, “the Word became flesh and walked among us.” Jesus came and made Earth his home, dwelling with us. Jesus was human like us, and by him becoming flesh, he lived the same life we did. Just imagine, the One who created heaven and earth, light, water, nature, and animals, came to a broken world to not only bring light to us but to give us life.
There are times when I lose sight of who Jesus is and feel surrounded by the darkness of the world. By practicing what we at The Journey call a “slot and spot” (intentional time and place with God), I pause and meet Jesus in his Word. Spending time with Jesus during this time allows me to pick my head up and see the light that was brought through him.
Not only can we find God in the Word, but also when we just hit pause and look around, he is there. Every time I go on a nature walk, open the windows to listen to the rain, or take in the streets covered in snow, I just become overjoyed at all God has created. In Genesis 1, we read about the creation of heaven and earth, light, water, nature, animals, and last, but definitely not least; he created man in his own image with Jesus, The Word. When I look around, I can undoubtedly see God’s fingerprint on this world.
Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for your Word and for becoming the Word who dwelt among us. I pray that those who may feel you are far away and are surrounded by darkness open up your Word and find you, The Word, there and instantly see the darkness fade away around them. Touch me as I dive deeper into the names of God and begin to understand all of who you are. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Next Steps:
Take time and read all of John 1. As you read, take in Jesus’ humility as he came down to Earth to live among us.
Pray and ask God to open your heart and mind to fully understand the importance of John 1.
Read Genesis 1 to be reminded of his beautiful creation.

Posted at 05:43h, 06 FebruaryWhat a great devotional! We see that God was thinking of us from the very beginning by virtue of God creating all things (including us) by Jesus. We truly get to serve an awesome God who is always putting his love for us first. Love the point about Jesus driving out the darkness in our lives because He literally drove out the darkness during creation. Such a great encouragement, Dyniece!
