One J-Teamer, Chris, started coming to The Journey last year. When COVID-19 struck, he immediately looked for ways that he could become more involved and make a difference. After joining the Code Red team, he partnered with Donate Delaware to organize a drive to collect bed sheets to be made into masks and then distributed to those in need throughout Journey City. Our goal was to get 1,000 sheets donated, and we far surpassed that goal! We ended the project with 2,200 sheets, as well as eight large fabric rolls — enough to make 60,000 masks.
Shannon, a J-Teamer and small business owner, was struggling to pay her rent on her salon in April because of COVID-19 shutdowns. Code Red was able to step in and paid her rent for the month! Shannon was so inspired by the generosity, that she then led the charge to provide food and baby essentials to others in Journey City — 1,000+ diapers, 24 canisters of baby formula, 22 canisters of Gerber puffs and teething cookies, 20 packs of wipes, and 25 Hope Totes filled with food and supplies!
“When I went to make the first call, I almost couldn’t breathe. I have done advocacy work, and have never had a problem reaching out to strangers, but when it comes to my faith, I have always been so nervous. Something amazing happened during that first call. The woman on the other end was so sweet and thankful. She told me how much she loves The Journey and how awesome it is that we are taking the time to check in on people and offer help and prayer. I cannot express how relieved I was, and I knew God was right there with me, giving me the courage and strength I needed.” – Cindy, Connections J-Teamer
A Journeyer who received a call from our team shared, “That call made all the difference for me. I had been apprehensive about getting involved in a church, but when you reached out I knew this was a church that cared, and I wanted to be involved.”
“I have been scouting out different churches and never felt like I fit in. I don’t know how to explain it, but after seeing the YouTube ad for The Journey something in me said that this is the church for me. So here I am. I am willing to take that leap of faith. I know that God never abandoned me.” – Tom
Alyssa, a mom of one of our Journey Kids shared how much she has been enjoying the Journey Kids interactive gatherings, “We love these! I mean, she loves it! She sings all of the songs, we discuss, go over the verse. We are so grateful. Thank you so much — we greatly appreciate all that the Journey Kids team has been doing.”
Because of you, we can meet the needs of those in Journey City — not just in the COVID-19 season, but all year long. Your giving will help even more needs to be met each day through Code Red projects and partners.
Through our digital platforms, we continue to reach out to those within Journey City and beyond! Now more than ever, your giving makes sharing the message of hope with people digitally possible, and we have a vision of increasing this reach through digital promotional opportunities.
In 2019, we launched our second location of our church in West Wilmington — and YOU made that possible. We have a dream to continue to launch locations all throughout Journey City, and we are already planning and praying about where God will have us launch our third one.
