Message Guide – Who’s Asking?, Voices Weekend | Week 1
Key Takeaways
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?”
We all have big questions for God, but it is the questions he asks us that end up changing our perspective and our lives. Through our series Who’s Asking, we’ll take a deeper look at the questions God has for us, and the transformation they can provide. This week we heard from four communicators in our church who each explored a different question God poses in the Book of Job that reminds us who he is.
The breakthrough you’re praying for may require the surrender you’ve been avoiding. – Yare Sanchez
God reminds us that when we have questions, we can listen for his voice and trust in his guidance. We don’t need to understand everything, we just need to put our trust in the one who does, and surrender the outcome to him.
In his wisdom, he asks us to look past our limited perspective and see him. – Andi Neal
God reminds us that he knows what we need better than we do. He sees and understands so much more than we can. He is always listening to our prayers and in his wisdom he can help us to change our perspective to see past our pain to see him.
When all we see is the storm, God is preparing a storehouse so that we can tell a story. – Haley Dreibelbis
God reminds us that he reigns sovereign over all creation and even the storms must obey him. He won’t waste the storms of our lives, in fact he uses them to refine our faith and trust in him.
We don’t need the details when we know the designer. – Aidan Shipengrover
God reminds us even when things feel out of control and we want to know “What is going on?” we don’t need to worry. We can trust that the expert, God, knows what he is doing and has the perfect plan for our lives.

Pray
As you pray this week, reflect on who God is and honor him with words of adoration.
Father,
You are great and worthy of my praise. You are the one who created the heavens and the earth, and you created me in your image. I worship you and love you with all my heart.
God, I have so many questions for you, but I thank you for the questions that you pose that transform my perspective on who you are and who I am in Jesus. I rest in the knowledge that I serve the one who knows so much more than I ever could. I trust in your plans and your will, for me and for our world.
I thank you for sharing your wisdom and love through your Word to guide my life. As I reflect on your goodness and the power of who you are, I ask for courage and wisdom to share that with others who you put in my path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflect
Reflect on these questions during your slot and spot/discussions with others.
Read Job 38. God asks where Job was when he laid the foundations of the earth.
- How does this challenge your sense of self-importance? What does it reveal about the limits of your own understanding compared to God’s?
- Why do you think God asked questions rather than giving direct answers or changing Job’s circumstances? How does this relate to how you sense God communicates with you?
Yare’s message reminded us that our challenges can result in breakthroughs when we trust the outcome to God.
- Can you think of a time that you experienced a big breakthrough in your faith? What did you have to surrender first? Are there any areas of your life that you feel God calling you to surrender to him today?
Haley’s message reminds us that God doesn’t waste our storms.
- What story has come from a past storm in your life? How does reflecting on this story impact your faith? Who can you share that story with today?
Aiden’s message reminds us that we can trust the details to God because he knows best.
- How does knowing that God is the expert designer of all things change the way you approach tough choices or situations that feel out of your control?
Andi’s message reminds us that God knows so much more than we do.
- How can acknowledging your own limitations help you to trust God more fully?
