Message Guide – Who, Me?, Week 1 | There Will Always Be Enough For You
Most of us would prefer to have all the information before we take a big step. But what happens when God asks us to do something we weren’t planning for, and doesn’t tell us exactly how it’s going to work out?
Key Takeaways
When we say “yes,” God provides the rest.
It’s tempting to say no because we feel we are not qualified. Or, to obey only part of the command because we know we have limited resources. However, God is not looking for the most qualified person. He is looking for the person who will say YES to him, obeying him first, before they pursue their own plans.
Pray
Prayer is our time to talk to God. Let this prayer help to inspire your own conversations with God this week.
God, You are a good father, and I honor you for the way you continually provide for me. Thank you for your Son, Jesus, who lived a perfect life as an example for me to learn how to trust and obey you.
Search my heart and help me see where I have been saying no to you, or where I am holding back from following you completely. Forgive me for being afraid of putting you first and renew in me a spirit that trusts in you.
God, show me what you would have me say yes to and give me the courage to obey. Send me other people in my life who will help me on that journey, and as I grow, work through me to help others on their journey as well.
Your plan is so much better than mine. Even when I cannot see how it will work out, I know that you will make a way and give me exactly what I need. I will say yes to you today and every day. Amen.

Reflect
Reflect on these questions during your Slot and Spot/discussions with others.
This week we learned that God has a role for each of us, even though we may not feel qualified to fill it.
- Can you think of a time you were asked to fulfill a role or do something you felt unqualified for?
- Thinking back, do you feel like God was the one asking?
God promises that if we obey him first, he will provide the rest. Have you experienced an example of this, or seen it played out in someone else?
- How did God provide what you/they could not? What was the impact on your life and faith?
- Having seen God work in the past, does it make it easier or harder to step out in faith again?
- Is there anywhere you are waiting to act because you don’t know how it will all turn out? Have you ever obeyed God partially by saying yes only to the first part of what he was asking?
Read the story of Elijah and the poor widow in 1 Kings 17.
- If you were the widow, what would be your initial thought when Elijah asked for water and food?
- Why do you think she obeys? What would cause you to obey if you were in a similar scenario?
- Each day the widow and Elijah had just enough food for the day. Each day they have to obey and trust in God again. Can you relate to the process of having to choose to believe God again every day? How does that process impact your faith?
Next Steps
- Have you ever felt God nudging you to take a next step and thought: “Who, me?” Remember, God will take your “yes” and provide the rest. This week, pray and ask God to help you change that “Who, me?” to “Why not me?”
- There are lots of great ways to live out your “yes” at The Journey. Spend this summer gathering with us weekly, getting connected in a J-Group, and finding your place and part on our J-Team. And don’t forget to practice a slot and spot daily. This guide will be available every week to get you started.
